As humans, we have many different identifying factors that can clue others in to our background without conversing. Our hair, eye, and skin color among other traits give stark visual clues to where we originated. While this is no doubt an artifact from our more tribal days, and is less necessary in modern times, it’s still interesting to see what traits we possess that are indicative of a certain region. One of these indicators often gets little thought and almost never a passing glance, but is a helpful key when exploring our genetic heritage – our toes.
HOUR 1 AUDIO:
HOUR 2 AUDIO:
This week on One Cell, One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy welcomes Ms. Annie Choi, Founder of Crystal Fit Well Center in Los Alamitos and VP of Creative Development for SaySkin, Korea’s new Detox, Relaxation and Nurturing Bed & Breakfast facilities located in Gang Won Do, Republic of South Korea.A native of South Korea, Ms. Choi was once known as the “Queen of the Jet Ski” as she produced and designed the Forerunner jet ski line for Suzuki. Her motto is, like the famous General Chang, “Always Move Forward.” It is through that pioneering spirit that she is now opening the first international relaxing and detoxification Bed and Breakfast cabins to offer the
protocols of Dr. Hildegarde Staninger™ to their clientele with their own skin care product line as formulated by our Dr. Hildy. The facility is nestled high within the pristine mountain ranges of the Republic of South Korea.
During their discussion, Dr. Hildy and Ms. Choi will also discuss how lineages can mix. Perhaps like Ms. Choi, you are Korean, but your second toe is longer like an Ancient Greek toe. How is it possible that these two seemingly too-distant cultures could intermingle? The migrancy of ancient tribes as they traveled along the Silk Road and Amber Trails will also be explored.During the 2nd Hour Dr. Hildy will discuss:
Tasters and Nontasters expressing Polymorphism in Korean & USA Population — Genes for Tasting Phenol Thiourea (PTC) and Sodium Benzoate – by Dr. Hildegarde Staninger, RIET-1 and Annie Choi
© April 30, 2012 – SWEET, SOUR, BITTER, SALTY or NO TASTE
An interesting genetically controlled variation in human populations was discovered by Arthur L. Fox while working at the Jackson Laboratory of E.I. DuPont in 1931. When the artificially synthesized chemical phenylthiocarbamide (PTC) (Syn: phenylthiourea) was dropped in a laboratory, some researchers were able to smell it, while others could not. It was later established that there is a dichotomy in human populations between individuals who can and cannot taste PTC (although tastes vary considerably in sensitivity).
The pattern of inheritance appears to follow that of a simple Mendelian trait, with TT and Tt being the tasters and tt the non-tasters. In most populations, a majority of individuals are tasters, but the frequency of non-tasters varies considerably from as low as 5% in sub-Saharan Africa to as high as 40% India. This study did a comparative analysis of Korean and US populations for tasters and non-tasters of phenol thiourea and another compound, sodium benzoate, where individuals will experience the tastes of bitter, sweet, sour, salty or no taste.Join Dr. Hildy and her guest Ms. Choi this week as they discuss ancient genealogy as evidenced through our little piggies and our tongues, on One Cell One Light Radio!
