Vitamins, Enzymes and Phyto-Chemicals are essential to life. They contribute to good health by regulating the metabolism and assisting the biochemical process that release energy from digested food. But where can they be found besides in pill form?

Special Updates on Vitamins, Enzymes and Phytochemicals
Vitamins are essential to life. They contribute to good health by regulating the metabolism and assisting the biochemical process that release energy from digested food. They are considered micronutrients because the body needs them in relatively small amounts compared with nutrients such as carbohydrates, proteins, fats and water.
Enzymes are essential chemicals that are the foundation of human bodily functions. They are catalysts (activators) in the chemical reactions that are continually taking place within the body. As co-enzymes, vitamins work with enzymes, thereby allowing all the activities that occur within the body to be carried out as they should.
Of the major vitamins, some are water soluble and some are fat (oil) soluble. Water-soluble vitamins must be taken into the body daily, as they cannot be stored and are excreted within one to four days. These include vitamin C and the B-complex vitamins. Oil-soluble vitamins can be stored for longer periods of time in the body’s fatty tissue and the liver. These include vitamins A, D, E and K. Both types of vitamins are needed by the body for proper function.
For many years, researchers have recognized that diets high in fruits, vegetables, grains, and legumes appear to reduce the risk of a number of diseases including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and high blood pressure when compared with diets high in meat. More recently, it was discovered that the disease – preventing effects of these foods are partly due to antioxidants – specific vitamins, minerals and enzymes that help prevent cancer and other disorders by protecting cells against damage from oxidation. Now researchers have discovered that fruits, vegetables, grains and legumes contain yet another group of health-promoting nutrients called phyto-chemcials, these substances appear to be powerful ammunition in the war against cancer and other disorders. Phyto-chemicals are the biologically active substances in plants that are responsible for giving them color, flavor, bioluminescence and natural disease resistance. =========
