The National Registry of Environmental Professionals (NREP) is the largest U.S. non-governmental environmental accrediting organization, and is recognized by the US Department of Energy and the Environmental Protection Agency. NREP has over 20,000 members and joint members worldwide, including managers, technicians, and other professionals working on operations and management related to regulatory matters such as compliance with air, soil and water pollution regulations.
In 2006 at the NREP Annual Conference in Nashville, TN, it was recognized there were no environmental, safety and health regulations specifically to address the health concerns of exposure to advanced materials as associated with nanotechnology. And in the Fall of 2013 NREP further committed their concerns through their professional members on the use of these materials into the integration of GeoEngineering, Biological Monitoring of Biological Systems and Environmental Monitoring that would use remote sensing networks with applications of SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition).
A survey was conducted through NREP’s Strategic Alliance Network of Organizations – IATRA (International Academy of Toxicological Risk Assessment) and the IEIA (International Environmental Intelligence Agency), as well as their private industrial and academic members who then supported the joint efforts in developing a Certification Program for SCADA through the NREP/SCADA Special Task Force Committee members: Dr. Hildegarde Staninger, RIET-1, Chairperson, Melinda Kidder, PI, CESCO, Dr. Daniel Farrier, MD, CIET and Dr. Richard Young, Executive Director and Founder NREP.
The NREP/SCADA Committee established in 2014 the basic criteria to be included in a special study guide to be used for advanced professional training which addresses members and future members, need to seek knowledge in understanding SCADA as it applied to the environment, science, medicine, neurosciences/mental health, law enforcement, engineering and other applied professional fields. This training would then allow individuals to be able to apply for the NREP SCADA Certification Examination process as well as continue in their thirst for Professional Developmental Training for H-SCADA and other network monitoring programs with applied field experience of field analysis of innovative advanced nano materials and other technologies.
SCADA (Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition) was originally a type of Industrial Control System (ICS) that has now branched out into medicine, pharmaceuticals, agriculture, academia, military and many other remote controlled computer systems of data for many other remote controlled computer systems of data storage, analysis and real time monitoring of specimens. The aspects of Industrial Control Systems are computer controlled systems that monitor and control industrial processes which exist in the physical world. SCADA systems historically distinguish themselves from other ICS systems by being large scale processes that can include multiple sites, and long distances (Example: Earth, Satellite, Space and Cosmos). These processes include industrial, infrastructure and facility-based processes.
- Industrial processes include those of manufacturing, production, power generation, fabrication, and refining. Many run in continuous batch, repetitive and/ or discrete modes.
- Infrastructure processes may be public or private, and include water treatment and distribution, wastewater collection and treatment, oil and gas pipelines, electrical power transmission and distribution, wind farms, civil defense siren systems, and large communication systems as well as various types of record data bases.
- Facility processes occur both in public facilities and private ones, including buildings, airports, hospitals, schools, ships and space stations. They monitor and control heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems (HVAC), access and energy consumption. In medicine, one may monitor data gathered from a human body remotely or from a laboratory experiment.
Recent developments in nanotechnology, biomedicine and life sciences have now incorporated nano-CMOS, MOSFET and MITRI Advanced Computer Systems into integrated advanced materials software and data storage/monitoring. The use of meta surface materials in nanotechnology will allow for holographic gradient Wi-Fi systems applications in the very near future.
