China’s Disappearing Kite Makers, Legends of Dragonflies
and Our BODY’s Spring Cleaning

This week on One Cell One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy addresses three topics that may seem unrelated, but actually have a lot in common! In the first hour of the show, Dr. Hildy will discuss Chinese kite-making. For hundreds of years, the Chinese have taken to the skies. While human flight is, of course, only a century old, the Chinese have long sent aircraft into the sky in the form of kites. But with China’s rapid growth, the art of kite-making has fallen by the wayside and is seen as part of that country’s past.

Flying a kite has many benefits, including providing exercise, enhancing friendships, and  elevates your mood. The health benefits of being outside, with a calming, yet focused activity like kite-flying, are immeasurable. But will there be enough kite makers to make the traditional Chinese kits?

And then there are the Festivities surrounding watching dragonflies in Japan…….a wondersome pastime, and a favorite subject of Dr. Hildy.

In the second hour of the show, Dr. Hildy will discuss the flowers, herbs, and botanicals that can be used for bringing up springtime vitality.

With the winter cold taking its toll all over the United States (except for the southern corners of Florida and California), many people can help get themselves back up to speed and out of the winter doldrums with the help of certain types of edible plants.

Leafy greens like lettuce, kale, dandelion greens and watercress provide numerous benefits for your health and are an essential part of one’s diet. But the are other options that can help you enlighten your palette. For instance, burdock, which for many years has been prescribed by herbalists to treat a multitude of ailments from leprosy to cancer; although only its antiseptic properties have been confirmed by modern science, it is currently an ingredient of at least two highly controversial herbal cancer formulas.

Join Dr. Hildy this week as she focuses on mental and physical health for the spring on One Cell One Light Radio!

Feb 19, 2015 – China takes pride that its cultural heritage includes being the inventor of kites. It’s a handicraft that, born thousands of years ago, helped launch the science of aerodynamics. Farmer’s Almanac – Spring Tonics
Spring Tonics – Mother Earth Living

CHICO — Around this time of year my grandmother would make stewed rhubarb. It was so pretty, a shocking pink against the yellow and cream of her breakfast bowls, but that first bite scrunched up your face and pursed your lips it was so sour. She called it her spring tonic and I wondered if everyone had a spring tonic — a quasi-medicinal ritual that came from the time before refrigerated trucks hauled fresh produce all over the world without regard to season.
