HOUR 2 Audio:
Before we had the means to record our thoughts, knowledge and history was passed down orally. Elders would talk as the village would listen, and over time, the concept of storytelling was born. Stories have almost always been a part of human interaction – from those early people sitting around a campfire, to the most modern online marvel incorporating multiple media. Though as we find new ways to tell our stories, the old ways remain some of the most effective.
This week on One Cell One Light Radio, Dr. Hildy welcomes special guest, Native American author and storyteller Willy Whitefeather.
Among Willy’s writings is Willy Whitefeather’s River Book for Kids, in which a grandfather teaches a young Cherokee how to avoid the hard knocks of the river. This book is also a story of survival, a key component to Willy’s work. Previously to the River Book, Willy published Willy Whitefeather’s Outdoor Survival Handbook for Kids, a non-fiction book that teaches children a number of basic wilderness survival techniques, from treating a bee sting to building an overnight shelter.
During their conversation, Dr. Hildy will discuss not only Willy’s books, but his other work as well, including the short film “Hope”, which is viewable on You Tube. In this film, Willy explores the ideals he strives for, and envisions a world in which suffering is all but forgotten. Additionally, some of Willy’s stories are available on his website, which will no doubt be discussed during his visit on the show. Look forward to some fun, informative, and thought provoking stories!

Osiyo! That’s howdy to you in Cherokee!
I would like to introduce you to my books. Part of the proceeds of these books will go to help disadvantaged Native American kids. A great gift for kids or grandchildren to show you care. Written for 6 years old and up to 60.
Note: The co-producer of the movie included that gun destroying scene – not Willy who supports 2nd amendment rights)
